TV Smith’s live performances remain celebrated for his intensity\, intelligence and emotional honesty\, capturing the atmosphere of punk at its most vital. \nHeadlining the night is John McKay’s Reactor\, led by the pioneering guitarist whose innovative playing with Siouxsie and the Banshees helped redefine the possibilities of post-punk guitar music. Atmospheric and hugely influential\, McKay’s sound became a blueprint for countless bands that followed. \nThe evening will be hosted by Marco Pirroni\, a member of the original Banshees line-up and a central figure in the early punk and post-punk scene. The band’s early releases were on the legendary Rough Trade Label before signing with Virgin offshoot Din Disc. They also released several albums on the Cherry Red label\, making a notable appearance on that labels’ well known “Pillows and Prayers” compilation. \nThough The Monochrome Set split in 1985 the next decade saw several reunions for both live gigs and further studio recordings. After a hiatus of over a decade the band reformed full time in 2010 and have since toured all over the UK\, Europe\, Japan and the USA\, whilst also releasing eight new\, critically acclaimed\, studio albums. Now in their 48th year\, they are beginning a new series of gigs promoting their new album and playing songs from throughout that time. \n14 ICED BEARS\n14 ICED BEARS started out being dismissed by a jaded music press as a generic twee outfit but over time developed into an undeniably ground-breaking indie band whose psychedelic excursions set the template for the early 90s shoegaze sound\, which is enjoying a huge renaissance today. \nFormed in Brighton in 1985\, by Robert Sekula and Nick Emery the band featured a shifting line-up of musicians across their initial seven-year run\, centred on songwriter and vocalist Rob and guitarist/songwriter Kevin Canham. \nTheir jangly indie pop was characterised by a fuzzy protopunk-influenced guitar sound\, and saw them receive modest critical acclaim in Britain’s music press and approval from John Peel who requested a couple of sessions from the band. The group released a handful of singles for a variety of labels\, including “Come Get Me” for the legendary Sarah Records\, and two full-length albums: the eponymous 14 Iced Bears (1988)\, and Wonder (1991). \nAfter their LPs were reissued by the boutique Optic Nerve label\, 14 Iced Bears reformed in 2010 and toured the US east coast\, the US west coast in 2011\, as well as some concerts in London and Indietracks festival before fading into the background again\, although front-man Rob Sekula continued to play solo and put out occasional singles. But over the last couple of years there has been a resurgence of activity from the Bears\, and they have played a number of Pop Fests in the UK and Europe finding new fans who recognise their status as indie-pop greats. \nPLUS DJ DAVE CHAMBERS

A native of central London\, Adam Ant became obsessed with music as a kid\, hearing all types of rock n roll and pop on the radio. When he was 12\, he learned to play bass\, adding guitar to his repertoire by the time he formed Adam & The Ants. \nEmerging during the chaotic clamor of British punk\, Adam Ant drew inspiration from the Sex Pistols but pursued his own distinctive path with his band Adam & The Ants. Dirk Wears White Sox\, the group’s 1979 debut\, channeled the sexy swagger of glam through the provocations of punk\, creating a dark\, sexy and vital sound that would later influence the likes of Nine Inch Nails\, who would later cover Adam & The Ants’ B-side “You’re So Physical.” \nTeaming with Malcolm McLaren\, the manager who helped make the Sex Pistols notorious\, Adam Ant developed the sound and sights that made him an international star. Sporting warrior makeup\, Adam & The Ants now sang clever\, snappy pop backed by thunderous rhythms\, a combination showcased on “Antmusic\,” a number two UK single that kicked off Antmania in Great Britain. \nAdam & The Ants stayed on the top of the British charts with “Stand and Deliver” and “Prince Charming\,” a pair of hits that earned him the Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year; additionally\, the organization named “Stand and Deliver” Best Selling Single in 1982. Adam Ant went solo in 1982 with Friend or Foe\, an album that gave him his American breakthrough with the jaunty “Goody Two Shoes.” That year\, Adam Ant earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. \nFor the next few years\, Adam Ant was a fixture in pop culture. Kings of the Wild Frontier won Adam & The Ants the first ever BRIT Award in 1981\, MTV named Adam Ant the Sexiest Man Alive and\, at one point\, Adam Ant had eight simultaneous singles in the UK Top 40\, a feat that not even the Beatles could match. \nAdam Ant continued to place high in the charts through “Room at the Top” in 1990\, when he chose to take a hiatus from music to pursue acting. DESCRIPTION:Adam Ant\, one of the defining musicians of the new wave will be touring North America this summer\, extending a legacy that stretches back to the heady days of punk. A native of central London\, Adam Ant became obsessed with music as a kid\, hearing all types of rock n roll and pop on the radio. When he was 12\, he learned to play bass\, adding guitar to his repertoire by the time he formed Adam & The Ants. \nEmerging during the chaotic clamor of British punk\, Adam Ant drew inspiration from the Sex Pistols but pursued his own distinctive path with his band Adam & The Ants. Dirk Wears White Sox\, the group’s 1979 debut\, channeled the sexy swagger of glam through the provocations of punk\, creating a dark\, sexy and vital sound that would later influence the likes of Nine Inch Nails\, who would later cover Adam & The Ants’ B-side “You’re So Physical.” \nTeaming with Malcolm McLaren\, the manager who helped make the Sex Pistols notorious\, Adam Ant developed the sound and sights that made him an international star. Sporting warrior makeup\, Adam & The Ants now sang clever\, snappy pop backed by thunderous rhythms\, a combination showcased on “Antmusic\,” a number two UK single that kicked off Antmania in Great Britain. \nAdam & The Ants stayed on the top of the British charts with “Stand and Deliver” and “Prince Charming\,” a pair of hits that earned him the Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year; additionally\, the organization named “Stand and Deliver” Best Selling Single in 1982. Adam Ant went solo in 1982 with Friend or Foe\, an album that gave him his American breakthrough with the jaunty “Goody Two Shoes.” That year\, Adam Ant earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. \nFor the next few years\, Adam Ant was a fixture in pop culture. Kings of the Wild Frontier won Adam & The Ants the first ever BRIT Award in 1981\, MTV named Adam Ant the Sexiest Man Alive and\, at one point\, Adam Ant had eight simultaneous singles in the UK Top 40\, a feat that not even the Beatles could match. \nAdam Ant continued to place high in the charts through “Room at the Top” in 1990\, when he chose to take a hiatus from music to pursue acting. Over the next decade\, he balanced these two interests\, scoring another hit in 1995 with the shimmering love song “Wonderful.” \nAdam began reclaiming his musical legacy in the 2000s\, earning a Q Music Icon Award in 2008. After releasing Adam Ant Is The Blueblack Hussar In Marrying the Gunner’s Daughter\, his first album of new material in 18 years\, in 2013\, he returned to the road\, shining the spotlight at different eras in his career by performing Dirk Wears White Sox\, Kings of the Wild Frontier and Friend or Foe in their entirety. On this USA Tour\, Adam will continue the line and will be pulling songs from his deep catalogue.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening with Marco Pirroni as he discusses his autobiography\, ‘Your Money or Your Life’. \nAs the 1980s ushered in a bright new pop future\, defiantly shrugging off the hostility and austerity of punk\, no band did more to sculpt and represent this flamboyant new musical landscape than Adam and the Ants. \nTheir music and image thundered across the charts\, our TV sets and bedroom walls\, searing into the imaginations of a generation. At the heart of Ant Music stood Marco Pirroni\, providing the powerhouse of sounds and songs behind their dazzling frontman\, both as lead guitarist and co-writer of all of the band’s classic material – including number one singles ‘Prince Charming’ and the Ivor Novello-winning ‘Stand and Deliver’. \nMarco Pirroni played guitar with the first incarnation of Siouxsie and the Banshees and was in the line-up for their debut gig at the 100 Club in 1976 with future Sex Pistol Sid Vicious on drums. He was a lynchpin in the UK punk scene but it was alongside Adam Ant that Marco found untold fame and riches. \nFor the first time\, Marco tells his side of the story that has been long documented by others. The book covers Marco’s punk roots and focuses on the glory years of the Ants before their implosion in 1982. He talks frankly about his complicated relationship with Adam as well as friends and luminaries from the punk scene including Sid Vicious who was often found at Marco’s parents’ house enjoying a cup of tea and getting his washing done. \nLong regarded as an authoritative voice on the punk movement Marco now brings his wit and hard-won insights to deliver this brutally honest\, viciously funny and deeply affecting memoir. \nMarco Pirroni said: ‘Now is a good a time as any – with the 50th anniversary of that 100 Club punk festival looming – to get my story down on paper: from those initial fumblings around Malcolm and Vivienne’s shop as a very young teenager\, to playing with the Banshees\, and seeing those early Pistols gigs before they’d become a household name\, and finally to the huge success I had with Adam in the early ‘80s. The period covered in the book is roughly 1972-1982 and takes in glam/punk/New Romantic through to pop stardom and includes a cast of people who mattered in London throughout that period – better known to me as my friends. You could say I’ve never moved on from that decade but I never will\, and\, in a lot of ways\, I’m happy with that.’ \nCopies of Marco’s book will be available to purchase at the event from Linghams Bookstore and there’ll be a dedicated book signing after the talk. Marco is in conversation with former musician turned award-winning and bestselling author\, Daniel Rachel. \nMarco Pirroni is a songwriter\, guitarist and producer. \nHe teamed up with a little-known punk outfit – Adam and the Ants – in 1980 and within a year the band was on the brink of worldwide acclaim. An integral part of the band\, Marco acted as lead guitarist and co-songwriter\, penning five number one singles and a further four top ten hits\, with Adam. The two albums he co-wrote for Adam and the Ants – Kings of The Wild Frontier and Prince Charming – both went to number one. When the Ants disbanded in 1983\, Marco remained as Adam’s co-writer and musical director\, starting straight off with a number one single (Goody Two Shoes) and album (Friend or Foe)\, followed by nine more top twenty hits. Goody Two Shoes gave Marco his third Ivor Novello award\, having picked up two already for Stand and Deliver. Marco’s work with Adam left an indelible commercial and creative stamp across the eighties and pop music in general. They sold more than six million records worldwide\, scoring number ones in Australia\, Germany\, Greece\, Sweden\, Israel\, Japan and the UK. \nDaniel Rachel is a former musician turned award-winning and bestselling author. His previous books include Too Much Too Young: Rude Boys\, Racism and the Soundtrack of a Generation (aTimes\, Uncut\, Rough Trade US and Resident Musicbook of the year) and Isle of Noises: Conversations with Great British Songwriters (a Guardian and NME book of the year). DESCRIPTION:UPDATED EVENT (Previously scheduled for 22/5/26) \nThe Monochrome Set return to Bristol\, playing The Louisiana for the first time. The band feature original Monochrome Set members Bid (guitar/vocals) and Andy Warren (bass) with Athen Ayren on keyboards and Stephen Gilchrist on drums. \nThe Monochrome Set formed in 1978\, and were heavily influential in the post-punk scene that evolved after the initial scorched earth of punk. The band’s early releases were on the legendary Rough Trade Label before signing with Virgin offshoot Din Disc. They also released several albums on the Cherry Red label\, making a notable appearance on that labels’ well known “Pillows and Prayers” compilation. \nThough The Monochrome Set split in 1985 the next decade saw several reunions for both live gigs and further studio recordings. After a hiatus of over a decade the band reformed full time in 2010 and have since toured all over the UK\, Europe\, Japan and the USA\, whilst also releasing eight\, new\, critically acclaimed\, studio albums. \nNow in their 48th year\, they are beginning a new series of gigs promoting their new album and playing songs from throughout that time. \nCANDYMOUSE\nEver wondered what the love child of 80’s indie also-rans Mousefolk and the Candy Darlings would sound like?
