Spanks to everyone who took part in March’s inaugural monthly member survey – over a third of you on our list responded – amazing!
The theme was social media consumption, just to ease you in gently...
Nearly two thirds of all respondents are on social media every day, with a quarter checking the channels multiple times per day for Ant news or entertainment. Facebook came up as top of the most used social pops with 83% of members, followed by Instagram (68%) and then YouTube (60%).
A third of respondents told us that they are on social media more now than 5 years ago, which was a bit surprising seeing as – according to a recent Ofcom report – (UK) adults are actually becoming less active. Perhaps Adam touring has got something to do with it…or maybe ‘cos Ant Lib’s back shaking things up again (yeah, right LOLZ).

To that point, you might not necessarily trust what you read on t’nterwebs, and whilst non-committal on whether you trust online content specifically written about Adam/the Ants, you told us that you strongly trust Ant Lib’s content – with over half of you strongly agreeing that Ant Lib improves your daily experience of social media. This comes as not only a massive relief but also deeply flattering!
The proof of the pudding is in how shareable our social media content is and – according to the mixed response to our final question – we could definitely do better. Once we find the sweet spot, I’ve no doubt we’ll have things flowing. In other words, it’s time to up our content game… and that’s where this month’s member survey comes in.
Congratulations to Tony Nys of Steendorp, Belgium (please check your email, Tony!) who receives the prize of four books including the Japanese edition of Jordan’s Defying Gravity. The surveys will probably get shorter/simpler and more focused as we get into the (weekend) swing of ’em, so additional thanky woos go out to you all for being so accommodating at this early stage.
I’m currently pulling together prizes from out of storage boxes to (hopefully) keep you keen but donations/partnerships for future surveys are welcome, so drop us a line if you have something in mind.
member SNEAK PEEK (sort of)
A ‘new old’ archive addition, this is an interview I’d completely forgotten about, to the extent it was omitted from 2009’s Ant Lib Online 2.0 website as it was probably considered a bit nerdy at the time and upstaged by the bigger names from the world of Adam & the Ants.

Despite being one of the original movers and shakers of the 80s, Richard James Burgess had very little online presence when I interviewed him back in 1999, other than a page to promote his acclaimed music production textbook. Literally no mention of his importance on the electronic music scene, Landscape or projects other than Spandau were referenced. We actually had just the one photo of him (pictured here) and he was extremely cagey on providing any others (preferring to keep a low profile!) and for a long time this was his only interview online within the context of pop music collaborations. This impacted research and the quality of the questions I eventually pitched via email, wishing in hindsight I’d asked more about his musicianship and thoughts on Merrick et al.
